Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Literature Review According to Coon (2007), there are a few writers who have expounded on Leadership, and James Macgregor is one of them. This creator brings up that, only one out of every odd individual that has power can exhibit initiative; yet then again, all pioneers have power (Coon, 2007). Be that as it may, the issue that comes in will be with respect to how power can be used to offer help to the leaders’ endeavors so as to understand a constructive impact on their own lives just as on the lives of others (Coon, 2007). This issue can be settled by utilizing referent force. Five types of intens ity were illustrated by John French and Bertram Raven in the year 1959 and among these, one of them was referent force (French Raven, 1959). Referent force is found to exist in a circumstance where supporters hold their pioneer in high regard, recognize themselves with that person and they are particularly ready to tail the person in question. This type of intensity becomes possibly the most important factor â€Å"when the pith and the character of the pioneer are appealing to the individuals who might follow† (Coon, 2007, p.1). Among the researchers, there are the individuals who hold a conviction that solitary open figures just as big names have referent force. In any case, the essential standards are settled in the day by day activity that every single individual completes (Coon, 2007). The pioneers that have referent force take part in exhibiting regard for others and they additionally regard the individual estimation of an individual (Coon, 2007). By searching for approa ches to serve and have a shared opinion, these pioneers can interface with others, not considering the distinctions or similitudes that they may have with the individuals. Besides, pioneers that have referent force are continually ready to be responsible and take part in tutoring those whom they lead. Along these lines, â€Å"by regarding, serving, and tutoring, referent force can be developed† (Coon, 2007, p.1). Referent force is gained by that pioneer who has solid â€Å"interpersonal relationship skills† (Thomas, 2002, p.5). A rundown of courses through which a pioneer may pick up and have the option to keep up referent force is introduced by Yukl (2002). The main path is by a pioneer indicating acknowledgment and positive thought. Besides, a pioneer needs to act in a strong and accommodating manner and ought to likewise utilize â€Å"sincere type of ingratiation† (Yukl, 2002, p.150). Besides, for a pioneer to procure referent force, the person ought to parti cipate in safeguarding individuals and supporting them when important. He ought to likewise do willful favors and participate in making self-penances to show the worry that the person has. What's more, for a pioneer to increase referent force, the person ought to have the option to keep the guarantees the individual in question makes to the adherents (Yukl, 2002).Advertising We will compose a custom exposition test on Referent Power: Examples explicitly for you for just $16.05 $11/page Learn More Caring for others in a veritable way serves to assemble referent force. Picking up and furthermore keeping up referent force â€Å"requires more than bootlicking, favors, and appeal; eventually it relies upon the leader’s character and integrity† (Yukl, 2002, p.150). Referent force matches with the â€Å"leader-follower† relationship’s quality (Yukl, 2002). Taking the case in an organization’s setting, the wellspring of referent force is found to lie in th e regard that the workers have for a supervisor and their desire to attempt to resemble the director or recognize themselves with the person in question. This sort of intensity is enormously founded on trust. As a rule, it impacts the representatives, particularly the individuals who have mindfulness that they are â€Å"modeling their conduct on that of the director and utilizing what they assume the person would do in such a circumstance as a state of reference† (â€Å"Leadership styles and bases of power†, 2012, p.1). It might require some investment for this sort of capacity to create and this infers, the referent force may not be seen as compelling in a circumstance where there is a high work force turnover (â€Å"Leadership styles and bases of power†, 2012). There are a few blunders that are made in applying referent force, particularly in the diverse settings. For example, such mistakes may come in misconception the way wherein the â€Å"employees relate to their superiors† (â€Å"Leadership styles and bases of power†, 2012, p.1). Since representatives distinguishing themselves with their pioneers, in the United States of America, this is impeded by the real force images, for example, dress and titles. The individuals who bolster the utilization of referent force suggest that the supervisors ought to take part in dressing in a similar way as the workers and utilize such terms as â€Å"facilitator† or â€Å"coach† as opposed to utilizing such threatening terms as â€Å"boss† or â€Å"subordinates† (â€Å"Leadership styles and bases of power†, 2012). Discoveries It has been discovered that, the pioneers that have referent force have a character which draws in regard and adherents are pulled towards them. Also, it has been discovered that referent force may come out from the relationship that the pioneer might be having with another ground-breaking individual in the association (Fiore, 20 04). For example, taking the instance of a school setting, there are some appointee principals that may have referent force. This follows the discernment that the individuals from staff have, that the agent principals have a cozy relationship with the principals and they frequently do obligations in the interest of the principals. Individuals like Martin Luther King Jr., John F. Kennedy and Mother Theresa among others, are seen as people that had elevated levels of referent force (Fiore, 2004).Advertising Searching for exposition on business financial matters? He met gatherings and occupied with impacting the national arrangement. As on one hand he didn't â€Å"hold office in the feeling of French and Raven’s authentic power† (â€Å"Martin Luther King†, n.d, p.1), then again, he had the referent force that he used to welcome an effect on the American political procedure. The experience he had as a â€Å"socio-political thinker† just as an author empowered him to assume an influential position. Disgrace - Morality of David Lurie - 861 Words

Write an essay in which you explore Lurie’s view of morality. Use examples from the text to support your observations: Morality according to Wikipedia: â€Å"Derived from the Latin word Moralitas which means manner, character, and proper behavior. Moral code is a system of morality and a moral is any one practice or teaching within a moral code. Morality can be synonymous with â€Å"goodness† or â€Å"rightness†.† David Lurie has a mixed sense of morality. On one hand, he sleeps with prostitutes in order to fulfill his sexual needs as they are in his view, something that needs to be fulfilled like any other basic human need and it doesn’t matter how or by whom this need is fulfilled. On the other hand, he is a romanticist and turns everything†¦show more content†¦He does not immediately offer an apology; instead he lusts after the younger sister, Desiree. His moral values are distorted again, because Desiree is still a child at school. He even has thoughts about having the two sisters together: â€Å"The two of them in the same bed: an experience fit for a king†. All over again he becomes the sexual predator, acting almost the same as the man who raped his daughter, Lucy. The morals that David exhibit seems mixed and his moral code blurred. It seems as though David himself is confused by his own moral code, perhaps experiencing an identity crisis. His literary hero, Lord Byron, was a great womanizer who once wrote a poem to El Burlador de Sevilla Don Juan Tenorio, who also followed a life down the same path. David Lurie does know the difference between right and wrong but chooses to go down the wrong path inevitably. His morals are questionable, at times it seems to be completely lost but when it comes to his daughter they seem to be in order. David is a difficult character to analyse - he is the epitome of someone with a mixed view of his own identity and, ultimately, disgrace. The only crime Ryan Andrew Norman commits is destroying the evidence such as Marions car and Marions blood, and that is only to protect his mother. The way the set in the film is always dimly lit such as the scene where Detective Arbogast asks Norman some questions about Marions disappearance in the lobby of The Bates Motel, creates a constant feeling of evil and darkness in the air. During the murder scenes the audience always get close up shots of the victims faces but the viewers never actually saw the murder weapon sinking into the skin, which left a lot to the viewers imagination and increased the horror and fear. The music used during the murder scenes was sharp, constant and screeching formed which created an evil, nasty twisted feeling. The high pitched Screeches were always synchronised with the strikes of the murder weapon, this could almost make the audience feel the pain themselves. Overall, in my opinion I would say Hitchcocks Psycho was a great success, changing the way many people thought about films and inspiring many great horror film writers which the public all enjoy today. In my Psycho poster which I have made on Adobe Photoshop 5. 5 I used a dark colour (black) for the background. I did this because dark colours create evil, mystery and tension. My poster also denotes Norman Bates in his motel bathroom looking down toward the shower/bath, this maybe just after he has murdered Marion. To someone who hasnt seen the film they will not know this is after he has murdered Marion and this will create tension because they will want to know what crime has been committed because Norman Bates looks in shock and in guilt. The poster also contains some gloomy grey text signifying mystery and some big yellow text to catch the publics attention. The poster also contains red test because that connotes anger and is also the colour of blood symbolizing that a murder has just been committed. There is also a slogan included on my poster saying One killer Two Minds Who can stop him? This also creates tension, because the audience will want to find out who committed the crimes.

This set of values should be adopted individually by employees and collectively by teams, departments, and the company as a whole, Mobinil values are based on human values as devotion to service , honesty, trust cooperation, transparency, respect and tolerance . See appendix (1) for more Details 3- WHY THE COMPANY NEEDED CHANGE In the latest quarter reviews, top management realized that revenues are decreasing and that they are rapidly losing market share to the competition. Competition was found to be greater innovators and having a faster new product to market cycle. In addition, NTRA, the governmental authority controlling the telecom market is putting more pressure on the telecom operators. And finally they realized that the demand of the clients is becoming more sophisticated, and traditional ways of doing business will not allow the company to move further with the same previous rates of growth and success. Accordingly Naguib Sawiris decided that serious change is required. In the general meeting he publicly announced that radical and fundamental change needs to take place. He encouraged all management to Participate In the change process, and at the same time delivered a subtle threatening message to those whom will not get on board the wagon. Mobinil contacted everal OD consultants, and after thorough analysis of the proposals received they decided to go ahead with two reputable OD practitioners: 1- CAPGEMINI 2- Blue Sky We will describe the action taken by the first one focusing on the HR department 4-ENTERING AND CONTRACTING Mobinil has set different criteria to choose the company with which they will do this major step, and they have asked for a technical, financ ial bedding to choose upon the main provider or external OD practitioner. The main intervention was meant in the HR management including a Techno structural Interventions After many meetings, presentation and discussions Capgemini was chosen by Mobinil , they sat with the Mobinil top management to define the main objectives of the change and they agreed that the main objective of the change is turning Mobinil into a competitive advantage in order to compete and generate more revenue to achieve the main vision and mission for the company . They put a time limit of 6 months in order to finish the evaluation of the current status then to discuss it with the top management. Capgemini will get in return about I Million US$ after finishing and implementing the change process. 5-DIAGNOSIS Capgemini started the diagnosis with 2 steps: * First : PESTAL or environment analysis for the forces affecting Mobinil operation * Second: understanding how Mobinil is currently functioning and providing the information necessary to design change interventions focusing on the HR Department A- PESTAL Analysis On the PESTAL analysis, we will describe all environmental forces affecting Mobinil operations as a leading mobile network Competitive Forces : Currently Vodafone and Etisalat represent the major competitors for Mobinil in the mobile operator services. Vodafone is one of the world’s leading Operator Companies, offering an extensive range of service, including voice and data. Established in 2000 in Egypt with a very good network efficiency perception, Vodafone always reacts towards its competitors in terms of offers and services, rarely though does it make its own offers, yet when it does make its own offers they are usually very attractive. Etisalat is the newest operator in the Egyptian market, with a perception of changing the market competition. In addition, it’s the first operator in Egypt providing 3G network with all its application from high data speed and video calling. It seems that no other major competitors will appear in the future; in spite of the existance of telecom Egypt (fixed phone), different internet providers and main mobile retails could be to some extent competitors but each in its own market. * Economic Forces : Egypt is considered one of the developing countries. Egyptian economic indicators are as below -Gross Domestic Product = $142. 8billion GDP per capital = $ 1,870 Real GDP Growth (%) = 3. 2 Share of Private Sector in GDP= 62. 5 billion Unemployment (%) = 10. 6 Inflation rate = 23 % These indicators will drive all mobile operators working in Egypt to offer the lowest price in order to match with the bad economic conditions as most of Egyptian population are pessimistic although mobiles represents one of the luxury and Self-actualization needs. Most of the Egyptian population has a week buying power meanwhile; they have a high spending pattern for mobiles * political forces From 1981, there wasn’t any change in the political environment except some fluctuations between the opposition parties, but with no obvious effect on the political life in Egypt Egypt is currently overhauling its political and democratic systems with the purpose of deepening democracy, promoting freedoms, upholding law and advocating respect of human rights * legal and regulatory forces Pursuant to Law No. 0/2003, the NTRA (National Telecom Regulatory Authority) is in charge of monitoring and protecting competition policy in the Telecom market. Accordingly the NTRA sets the limits for free competition, which if exceeded will result in the occurrence of monopolistic practices in any of the fields regulated by Law. A general framework for free competition policy is issued by NTRA to determine the policy to be followed to ensure a free competitive a nd liberalized environment. * Technological forces Due to the high technological development, mobile technology has developed during the last decade from 2G to 2. G and currently all operators are using the 3G technology with all its parents 3. 5 and 3. 75. Moreover, all operators are now using different software programs in order to have a CRM System. * Socio-Cultural forces With a population exceeding 80 Millions, living on 1 Million square kilometers; Egyptian population is distributed between 43% urban and 57% rural. Egyptian population is divided into different segments in terms of demographical aspects. Demographic indicators show that 58% of the population is under 25, allowing for a better opportunity for consumption. On the other hand, indictors show that adult literacy rate is 57%. Over the years, studies have proven that the Egyptian society is a consumption-driven more than being a production-driven society. For millennia, Egypt maintained a strikingly complex and stable culture. B-Understanding the HR Department CAPgemini made a one to one interview with every staff member, supervisor, manager, and even department head in order to know the daily operations, current process, and provide suggestions for change . After gathering data for over 3 months, they found the below points:- * Lack of alignment within the different departments, and lack of buy-in of the department heads and accordingly with the associates for the overall vision of the company * Telecom industry is a very dynamic field that needs a fast track HR management to bring onboard the best in class employees to enable the growth of the company. This vision was not there in Mobinil as the HR lacked focus, and activities ended up being handled by one person. Lack of clear HR objectives that meet the employee’s expectations; hence employee satisfaction was low, causing a high turnover rate. * Recruitment was influenced by personal relations, creating frustration and lack of trust among employees. These personal relations also spilled over into the evaluation and compensation systems. * From the above, the promotion and bonus criteria and metrics were not clearly stated nor communicated to employees, creating high frustratio n and low morale. * Lack of planning and job forecasting for the full time employees needed on the short and long term basis. No benchmark for the salaries and compensations between Mobinil and the market, creating a large gap between the pay in Mobinil and its competitors. * All training taking place in Mobinil was ad-hoc, with no clear planning or career path development goals. 6- PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTING CHANGE after finishing the diagnosis, Capgemini suggested that the HR department must have a clear mission and objectives. On the next few papers, we will elaborate all the suggestion about HR department in Mobinil done by capgemini HR Mission To foster a challenging, productive, fair, firm and ethical work environment, in which all employee thrive, by offering the best human resources service possible â€Å" HR Commitment to Mobinil employees Mobinil believes that their employees are the most valued asset. Mobinil ability to succeed depends on the integrity, knowledge, skills, diversity, and teamwork of their employees. They are shaping a challenging, fair, firm, and productive work environment, which emphasizes mutual respect and teamwork. They strive to reward high performance and we promise to be responsive to the needs of their employees. The company is committed to providing equitable compensation, excellent working conditions, and a fair atmosphere with great opportunities for professional growth. Equal employment opportunity Mobinil is an equal opportunity employer and we pride ourselves with the Equal Employment Opportunity policy (EEO). All employment applications are considered without regard to age, gender, religion, disability, or marital status. Tolerance and Diversity Mobinil respect others; tolerate differences; and believe in the power of diversity. They strive to create a culture where tolerance and respect exist between employees. The diversity of people brings strength to Mobinil team. Regardless of their differences in backgrounds, roles, age, gender, religion, or physical ability, they all bring value to the company through our work. They shall tolerate and respect our diversity and differences and treat each other fairly. Respect for people They should respect each and every person we interact with during our business dealings including customers, employees, suppliers, and all parties that have a business relationship with the company. They should consistently treat others with the respect and dignity which we desire for ourselves. The company operates a defined contribution pension plan for its employees, in addition to the statutory insurance scheme required by law. Employees who choose to subscribe to this plan pay 3% of their basis salary into the plan. The company will contributes an amount equal to 10 % of the employee’s basic salary to the plan The company has no liabilities or commitment to the plan beyond its defined contribution . employee who leaves through resignation or retirement receive their entitlements for the pension plan according to its terms based on year of services 4- Performance evaluation management: In order to Maintain and enhance growth and development of Mobinil employees. The performance of every employee is measured through setting performance objectives â€Å"What Formsâ€Å" and development of competencies â€Å"how Forms â€Å" What Form: responsible for measuring individual objectives as well as department objectives and its impact on the yearly profit share. KPI’s are set by the head of each department to be approved by HR How Form: responsible for measuring the individual development and its impact on the annual increase of the basic salary. KPI’s are set by HR department 7-EVALUATION AND INSTITULIZATION OF MOBINIL HR DEPARTMENT The evaluation was done in 2 steps: First: Evaluation analysis done by capgemini after the intervention Second: employees online survey to asses the new change of HR First: Evaluation analysis * Strength a well known mission and strategy for the HR department * appropriate management style giving employees a chance to express their point of view * appropriate organizational structure that facilitates k nowledge * a powerful training program * good motivation tools * weakness * late promotion due to setting a maximum of 8% annually of Mobinil staff to be promoted * no formal declaration for the dividends distribution * doesn’t put into its plan the development of second line responsible * no replacements for the people who resign * Depending on a lot of contactors especially in sales and customer services. * the severe intervention in every single detail, even in the operations * opportunities * very good opportunities for growth * very good reputation in the market, which facilitate the recruitment for caliber and a lot of fresh graduates * threats the appearance of Etisalat with its strategies for hunting the calibers in Mobinil * the existing of a lot of old staff whom transfered from Egypt telecom with minor management skills * incapable to compete with the new packages in the telecommunication market * Weak retention plan for resigned staff. * the composition of the compensation committee with 2 members only without putting any solution in case of conflict Second: Employees survey After the announcement of the new change and the importance of it in order to increase Mobinil performance and efficiency; a survey was uploaded on Mobinil intranet to ask people about their perception of the change . The results were unexpected as it showed the following: the new change increased the staff moral as they feel that the company can compete in the new market which affected their productivity and loyalty * they showed understanding for the need of change and gave full support, and they felt that this change was made not only for the shareholder but for the sake of all Mobinil members and stake holders * the change increased the companies transparency in terms of hiring, promotion, compensation package and profit share distribution * the change lead to increase in market share becoming the lea ding company in Egypt and helped increase the staff moral which was reflected in their productivity and efficiency. the survey showed that the new job descriptions helped to minimize the time for searching who is responsible for what as it contained clear responsibilities and authorities for every one working in the HR department * creating the new mission and commitment for HR department helped to achieve the companies over all mission and vision * A new culture has been created among all departments that the HR department has changed for their benefit not against them, as the previous culture before the change, and it increased inter and intra departmental communication 8-Conclusion After all of the above mentioned steps and details of the project that has been implemented, it was very clear that the change was really needed and felt in the organization. Despite the fact that many of the old stuff were very much resisting to the change especially that those people was with the owner hand in hand to build this giant organization, yet the top management was clear enough from the beginning and cascade the message clear that this change should happen and everyone should adhere to the recommendation done by the consultancy. As Mobinil noticed the importance of such a step, they were very cautious in choosing the OD practitioners , they set a clear criteria to chose among them. And they have set a good budget to be invested in such a step. Later on a clear contract and agreement with the OD practitioner was made that serves to make sure that both parties was clear in terms of expectations, resources, time and outcome of the project. That was a core stone to smooth on the whole process later on. The diagnostic phase which was a critical one took 30% of the time where the OD practitioner has meet with almost all the HR staff and the top management to make sure that they have got all the need information, unbiased and direct to serve the purpose of the project. Along with the analysis of the data collected was taken care by the company and they have came to the recommendation to the top management. Here the role of the communication was clear to cascade it to the key stakeholders, they buy in was critical and in manay cases they threaten them. The intervention was partially general standard models and part was tailored for Mobinil and it was focusing on the HR management and the technostrutural interventions. After the implementation majority of the stakeholders and people affected by the project, which happen to be almost all the employees has really touched the importance of taking such an important step and it is really affecting positively their lives and their day to day life. Now we can say that they major initiative has helped Mobinil to maintain its leadership position in the market, it has decreased the turnover of the employees from more than 27% to now less than 10% after the implementation by 8 months. Now the HR is one of the successful departments in the organization and it is well known in the market to be one of the very effective departments in the whole market. That is really the role of the big giant company to educate the market and here is Mobinil playing this role and taking advantage of being the first mover. End of document

A Definition of Speech Community in Sociolinguistics

A Definition of Speech Community in Sociolinguistics Speech community is a term in sociolinguistics and linguistic anthropology used to describe a group of people who share the same language,  speech  characteristics, and ways of interpreting communication. Speech communities may be large regions like an urban area with a common, distinct accent (think of Boston with its dropped rs) or small units like families and friends (think of a nickname for a sibling). They help people define themselves as individuals and community members and identify (or misidentify) others. Speech and Identity The concept of speech as a means of identifying with a community first emerged in 1960s  academia alongside other new fields of research like ethnic and gender studies. Linguists like John Gumperz pioneered research in how personal interaction can influence ways of speaking and interpreting, while Noam Chomsky studied how people interpret language and derive meaning from what they see and hear. Types of Communities Speech communities can be large or small, although linguists dont agree on how theyre defined. Some, like linguist  Muriel Saville-Troike, argue that its logical to assume that a shared language like English, which is spoken throughout the world, is a speech community.  But she differentiates between hard-shelled communities, which tend to be insular and intimate, like a family or religious sect, and soft-shelled communities where there is a lot of interaction. But other linguists say a common language is too vague to be considered a true speech community. The linguistic anthropologist  Zdenek Salzmann describes it this way: [P]eople who speak the same language are not always members of the same  speech community. On the one hand, speakers of South Asian English in India and Pakistan share a language with citizens of the U.S., but the respective varieties of English and the rules for speaking them are sufficiently distinct to assign the two populations to different speech communities... Instead, Salzman and others say, speech communities should be more narrowly defined based on characteristics such as pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, and manner of speaking. Study and Research The concept of speech community plays a role in a number of social science, namely sociology, anthropology, linguists, even psychology. People who study issues of migration and ethnic identity use social community theory to study things like how immigrants assimilate into larger societies, for instance. Academics who focus on racial, ethnic, sexual or gender issues apply social community theory when they study issues of personal identity and politics. It also plays a role in data collection. By being aware of how communities are defined, researchers can adjust their subject pools in order to obtain representative sample populations. Sources Morgan,  Marcyliena H. Earth's atmosphere, Clouds, and Air pressure and Wind Assignment

Earth's atmosphere, Clouds, and Air pressure and Wind - Assignment Example It keeps the temperature balanced within 24 hours as well. At different temperatures, the atmosphere is further subdivided into layers beginning from the Earth’s surface where troposphere lies between 7 to 14 kms followed by the stratosphere reaching the 50-km altitude. This layer is conducive for airplanes due to stability and with increasing temperature, only minimal amount of water vapor and other components may be detected. On top of the stratosphere is the mesosphere about 30 km in thickness which, due to unstable winds and temperature, experiences a certain degree of coldness. Within 80 to 85 kms from the ground begins the region of the thermosphere that spans a width of about 560 km or greater where it is possible for radio waves to be reflected during communication via radio system. Types of Clouds Clouds are generated every time the atmosphere becomes saturated with water vapor to the point they are unable to contain it in excess that phase change from vapor to liquid for water necessarily takes place during condensation stage of the water cycle. These clouds are massive by several millions of tons in weight and are classified based upon their physical appearance and altitudes. On the basis of the way they look in the sky, stratus clouds refer to the type which may be seen as flat sheets among low to high-level clouds. Another type under this classification are the cumulus clouds which are puffy, lumpy, or wavy and when enormous in size could form into towering vertical clouds with a potential to generate thunderstorm. Cirrus clouds, the third type, are known to be high and thin and cold at high levels, being made of ice crystals rather than water droplets. With reference to how high they could get from the ground level, clouds come in five types namely – high-level clouds, medium-level clouds, low-level clouds, moderate-vertical clouds, and towering-vertical clouds. It is quite interesting to find out that heavy rain, snow showers, and s now can be created with both the towering-vertical clouds and the moderate-vertical clouds. Air Pressure and Wind Systems When air exerts force on a particular area of the Earth’s surface due to the air’s weight then an atmospheric pressure emerges. This pressure increases as the layer of air becomes thick and this occurs at low altitudes whereas high places encounter low atmospheric pressure for having thin air around. A mercury barometer is the device used to measure air pressure in inches or millimeters. Wind, compared to still air, is identified with gases in motion and in our living planet, the mere flow of air is called wind. A ‘solar wind’, however, is caused by the flow of gases or particles from the sun in the outer space. Winds go by different names depending on their speeds and how long they stay on a particular spot. Gusts, for instance, are known as short bursts of fast winds, breeze for the light ones, whereas squalls are those with great str ength that last in a minute. Typhoon, hurricanes, storms, tornadoes, and cyclones are some other names given according to the wind’s nature of existence and they normally take place with high pressure differences beyond 200 miles per hour. Either hot rising air with low pressure or cool dropping air with high pressure

Bitcoins Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Bitcoins - Essay Example These bitcoins serve as money for all types of payments and receipts on the web. Individuals can maintain their own bitcoin wallet, where these bitcoins are debited or credited. Since this is a peer-to-peer currency, it does not require any central authority to issue currency or track transactions (The Economic Times, 2014). The concept of bitcoins was first published in a newspaper in 2008. However, it was only in 2009 that the first online wallet software for transacting bitcoins was released. It was called Bitcoin-Qt. Nonetheless, this software initially was poorly developed and many of its features were exploited to create more and more bitcoins. Later on, a team of core developers and experts of software were employed to monitor, develop and enhance the bitcoin way of transacting. Since then, use of bitcoins has rapidly increased. Also, there have been considerable fluctuations in the price of bitcoins. The price of bitcoins had reached its peak in 2013, during the Cypriot financial crisis. From the initial days of inception, the bitcoin system has suffered plenty of glitches with respect to technology and software system that it was based on. This was largely due to lack of proper governance and management of the software. The system was found to crash multiple times. So, individuals were not real ly eager to use it as a system of online money. Bitcoins were largely used in online gaming versions, where individuals on winning points were credited with bitcoins. Hence, only youngsters and teenagers were found to take interest in this system. Soon as greater regulations were incorporated in this sector, bitcoin exchanges were regulated whereby they were required to submit reports of bitcoin transfers. Gradually, more and more business firms and non-profit groups started to accept this form of exchange. Currently, BTC China, which is a Chinese bitcoin exchange, is the largest bitcoin exchange in the world by virtue of trade volume.

A guide for the works of the prophets Essay Example for Free

A guide for the works of the prophets Essay The prophet Amos is listed in Scripture as one of the twelve minor prophetical messengers (James Gray, 2007). Among the other minor prophets were the prophets Joel, Hosea, Obadiah, Jonah, Nahum, Micah, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi (Torah). In the fourth chapter of the Book of Amos, verses 1-6, the prophet delivers a message of destruction that will come from God (Christ Notes, 2008). The first few verses of the Book described the character of Gods instrument, a shepherd from the southern kingdom of Israel (Gray, 2007). Prophets are mainly messengers of the Lord, as they are entrusted to deliver a message from the Lord (David Noel Freedman, 2008). God delivers his message to the prophets in visiosn or by means of dreams (Freedman, 2008). But in the exceptional cases such as Moses, God spoke to him â€Å"face-to-face† (Freedman, 2008). God calls the prophets to carry out the delivery of His message, or a â€Å"commission† (Freedman, 2008). God initiates the call of the messenger, usually with dreams or visions or a supernatural event, as in the cases of Isaiah and Ezekiel (Freedman, 2008). The messages of the minor prophets that they delivered in Gods Name were basically one in nature, and that was God will bring the nations to account for their conduct (Torah). Amos message was focused on the Ten Tribes of Israel (Torah). The Israelites were reveling in their new found wealth, with an insatiable desire for more (Christ Notes, 2008). This can be deduced upon reading the Eighth chapter of Amos, verses 4-6 (Christ Notes, 2008). Amos message of the inevitable destruction and captivity upon the people of Israel, went largely unnoticed (Got Questions, 2008). References Christ Notes. (2008). Amos- King James version. Increase of Vegetables Prices

Problem Solution Essay-3rd draft Increase of Vegetables Prices * The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) stated that inflation has risen to 11. 7%, an increase of 0. 2 % this year over last† (Abdel Moniem, 2010). Prices of tomatoes, green beans, cucumber & green pepper’s prices have increased to be 15LE, 16LE, 6LE, and 8LE per kilo respectively. Affording basics necessities has become difficult for the middle & lower class families in view of such high inflation.Nadia, works as a house cleaner; she is a widow and a mother of three children. â€Å"One plate of salad for a family comprised of four members, used to cost 3 LE in the past few months. Now it costs more than 10 LE. We have to eat foul & eggs instead. Now, I cannot buy vegetables every day like before†. says Nadia. The gravity of this problem implores us to explore short and long-term solutions. Immediately, the Egyptian government should direct over the increasing p rices of the vegetables as a short-term solution, and re-distribute the farmlands on the long –term.Government officials from Agriculture & the Economic Development ministries attributed the sudden increase of the vegetables prices to a wide array of reasons. The first reason is the ghastly climate change during the summer. †This year's heat waves caused Egypt's tomato production to plummet from 40 tons per acre to 15 tons per acre this year. † (Abdel Moniem, 2010). The second reason is the spread of the white flies & pests that attacked and devoured most of the crops. The third reason is the bad transportation. The fourth reason is the lack of appropriate packing of the vegetables. The final factor is the random increase in prices by the intermediary sellers. Apparently, the soaring increase in the prices of the vegetables may lead to a number of effects on the consumption rates of Egyptian family. Some housewives enforce diet programs to their family. Oth er families boycott vegetables, or eat them once a week as a method of controlling their budget. Furthermore, in order to save money for food, most of the families skipped going out, traveling on holidays, or even having friends’ gathering at home. How can we avoid all these?Instantaneously, interaction from the Egyptian government should be done to solve the crisis of escalating prices of the vegetables. Egypt is ranked as the second largest country worldwide in producing tomatoes. This season a 55% of whole harvest was damaged. (Abdel Momiem, 2010). However, government should keep an eye on those issues. In fact, when the crisis happened in September 2010, the Agriculture ministry tried to help people finding the vegetables in affordable prices. As a swift solution, the ministry opened some vegetables’ outlets in different areas in Giza & Cairo with cheaper prices.Even though, the ministry provided 10000 tons of each kind of vegetables into these outlets with pri ces less than those available in the markets, yet they are not as cheap as before (Nagib, 2010). For instance, in the market, people can find the tomatoes with 12 LE/Kilo; however, the outlet sells it with 4. 50LE, but originally it was 2. 00LE/kilo a few months ago. These outlets could be a quick solution from the ministry of agriculture, but it is not an effective one. Is this quantity enough for the Egyptian residents? The government must carry out the following steps in order to deal with this crisis.First, the Ministry of Agriculture should provide sufficient quantities of vegetables in both reasonable prices and good quality. In coordination with the neighboring countries, the ministry of Agriculture could import the needed quantities of vegetables. Importing process is expensive; however, the government should bear any extra costs, and provide the market with these commodities at affordable prices. Second, storage facilities must be well maintained, to prevent damage of the g oods. For instance, storehouses, fridge trucks and domestic transfer trucks must work properly with the appropriate temperatures. Finally, government officials should have a firmer grip on the mid sellers, so they can avoid manipulating prices. In addition, severe penalties should be applied on those mid sellers if they trade with more than the official prices. Financially, these steps might cost the Egyptian government alot, but in cooperation with the ministry of finance, they can be viable. This could be a helpful band-aid approach to help decrease prices. Government should solve this problem by re-distributing the farmland according to its quality, size and nature of the soil. Food & Agriculture Organization ( FAO) statistics stated that the agriculture land size in the year of 1970 was 4842 HA. Today those lands’s size is 3542HA. After shrinkage in the agriculture lands has occurred, the harvest quality & quantity has also decreased significantly. Re-distributing the farmland and utilizing it in efficient way might need some implementations. First, government should determine the needs and consumptions of the people in each kind of vegetables. So, Ministries of Agriculture & Population can provide the accurate rates of vegetables’ consumption in Egypt.Second execution is determining the farmlands that are suitable for each kind of crops. For instance, Delta lands are the most suitable areas for planting tomato because of its richly fertilized soil. On the contrary, the sugar-cane needs high temperature, so Upper Egypt is the perfect location for it. Third, to reclaim unexploited constructions lands into productive agriculture areas. Recently, vegetables’ production had decreased especially in Delta area because the buildings, bridges, and factories are occupied large-scale of the agriculture land pieces.Fourth, increase the farmers’ awareness of the climate change, so take the fundamental precautions to save the crop s. Nowadays, the weather forecast’s equipment improves rapidly, and could predict the climate change in advance. Finally, sufficient fertilizers, pesticides & high mechanics should be supplied to the farmers in reasonable prices. In order to put into practice this provision, Ministry of Agriculture must distribute those pesticides & fertilizers among the farmlands equally.Definitely, these steps require incessant cooperation between different ministries: Agriculture, Health & Population, Housing & Development and the Scientific Research. Unfortunately, this process may take years to be implemented; moreover, it needs abundant budget. Nevertheless, this long-term solution is an effective way to solve the high increase of vegetable prices in Egypt. Vegetables are the most essential nutrients that provide human bodies with the basics vitamins; to maintain a good health, and raise immunity.Unexpected rise of vegetables prices forced people to boycott or quit purch asing these products, as they cannot afford. Government should enforce a quick strategy to reduce prices, and plan the farmlands according to the crop’s type in order to solve this problem. The government should proactively work on facilitating people’s life, and providing them with the basic needs. Treacherously, the impact of the vegetables prices raise may reach the peak very soon. Hence, the scale of poverty will elevate, and criminals’ ratios will widely expand into the Egyptian Society. The Egyptian government should consider the vegetables prices inflation as a major crisis not as a commonplace problem. * Abdel Moniem, A (2010,October ,14/20). I Am Completely Honest Being Sick With Strep Throat

To be completely honest, I had a hard time remembering and keeping a diary of every little thing I do. I am a very busy person, considering I have a full time job, 2 part time jobs, and a full time college student. I did make my best attempt at trying to see what all I ate and for physical activity and my results are interesting. The first thing I would like to talk about would be the amount of exercise. The total amount in a week was to have 150 minutes. Well within 3 days, I had over 900 minutes. I actually bet there was more than that, but that’s all I could remember. That is also including Wednesday me being sick with strep throat (as for this whole week actually.) It is kind of crazy even though I was sick, I still managed to get 900 minutes in 3 days. For logged time on Wednesday, I included a 35 minutes walk I take everyday with my dogs down the road. That is all I did Wednesday as I said, I was very ill with strep throat, as well as for all week and as I am writing this paper. Next is Thursday. Of course I took the usual 35 minute walk with my two pups. I was farming most of the day, and I only put 200 minutes of vigorous activity when actually now thinking of it probably was much more than that since we were unloading hay bales and I was feeding the baby calves. If you have ever fed over 150 b aby calves twice a day, it is very exhausting work. On Friday I also did the daily 35 minute walk with the puppies. I did go to work on the farm for a little while, but I sat
